About

☆ Little Artistic Statement ☆

I’m drawn to exposure, transparency, autofiction and playing with the questions of realness and fakeness. I use filming and returning to the filmed material as a tool to reflect. I want to find a way of performance, more accessible and relevant
for people coming from other cultural –, social class(es) and discussions than (only) the academic art world.

I see the role of an artist as a pre-thinker, proposer and experimenter. Art shapes reality by stretching the boundaries of what is accepted or imagined possible – or, conversely, drawing new boundaries and connections not previously known or (wanted to be) seen. Artist's work is a slow process of influence, called upon to accompany e.g. activism, to “soften” the common ground for the necessary changes towards, for example, social equality to become tangible.

I work with the pre-emotional and pre-cognitive collective memories; shame, trauma, histories and futures echoing in the collective bodies. I’m fascinated by social (group) identities and time as a reflector; revealing the changes in the individual and collective, local and global, mainstream and subcultural trends and values.

For an artist to expose their body can be considered a gift to those who witness it: to be able to look at (more than) humanity and the complexity of life through the bodies performing. I believe it has to be possible to find more ethical ways of exposing or using the personal to enable social discourse, without (further) oppressing the disadvantaged – and vice-versa, dismantling oppressive structures – albeit often indirectly; art or life is not (only) linear. One has to tolerate incompleteness and complexities. My core medium is my own body and its mortal and identifiable corporeality.
