Hatching out of something is a video work, which was made as a part of the solo demo process/work in the spring 2023. The video, the actual balls in the space and the audience interacting with the video and the balls were all playing essential roles in the solo performance. The solo demo process is part of the studies in Dance Art BA1in Teak.
Documenting has been an intriguing medium and tool to wonder, reflect and question. I was looking for ways to combine filming with the elements and power of dance. Through the lens of new materiality the objects (the balls) and their movement and actions helped to give agency for non-human and connect with other topics such as distraction, playing, rubber, cycles, rolling, access, ADHD and gender. The balls brought people together and facilitated the space for being / trying to reach outside the institution and conventional ways of perceiving dance, art and especially ”dance art”.

The video part of the solo work has been shown in multiple occasions including the Uniarts Fest, 10 years anniversary of the Uniarts of Helsinki, 40 years celebration of the Dance Programme of Theatre Academy and the 10 years birthday party of the multidisciplinary art collective Recover Laboratory.
